Hey Andrew! Thank you so much for making this! I'm making a goal to move to Malaysia for 2-5 years hopefully in the coming two years. The aim is to hopefully save enough money while being abroad there to be able to buy a home back in the US once I settle down. I was wondering if you had any recommendations or suggestions on making this happen!

Isn't it very silly for this revised MM2H policy to require a mandatory purchase of a rather hefty property, and cannot sell it within the first 10 years ? 1) A Silver applicant's validity is only 5 years . What will happen to his property when the validity expires ? 2) Don't expect the property price to appreciate after 10 years, given there are and will be plenty of new developments with so much land space in Malaysia. You will likely forced to sell it at a fraction of what you had paid 10 years ago. With frequent change of governments in Malaysia, you will not know what changes to this MM2H policy will surface along the way. No doubt, one will be very tempted to stay in Malaysia, given the very affordable daily cost of living and very nice food, but I will rather rent a place and stay , rather than choose this MM2H route.

I love everything about the new place, especially that view 😍😍!! I would put up a tension rod in the doorway to the second bedroom and hang a nice curtain on it to give future guests their privacy 😊.

My wife and I have been planning for years to retire to Malaysia (4 more years to go), and it looks like it will hjave to be the Sarawak MM2H right now. You said it required a minimum income or a fixed deposit. I have seen other people say the same. I have also read (including on the Altar Domus site) that both are required (which seems more likely). Is there a definitive source with this information? We will be saving our money either way; we can't wait to get back to Penang.

Hope for the best and benefit for the country too. I mean Malaysia is not a refuge or a welfare nation for foreigners. It's a pure business and a win-win scenario.

IT BECOMES CLEAR, NOW. Along with many others, I have been watching this MM2H chaos and wondering what was going on. Now, with these announcements, it is becoming very evident. All these months, there has been a lot of back room arguing going on between the factions in the Malaysian government that disagreed on the various terms and thresholds of MM2H. What we did not know of was the "cage match" that was going on between Prime Minister Ibrahim's faction and everyone else. I'm sure that there were many of us who saw an element of desperation in this protracted transformation of MM2H. Now, we know the key source of it...and it has to do with Johor...the vast Forest City development there...the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative...and the deepening problems with the PRC economy. Forest City was launched almost 20 years ago, using primarily private funding from Mainland China. It was extremely controversial because its target market was upper-middle class Chinese real estate investors. The whole thing has gone sour. (See the Wikipedia page on "Forest City Johor".) Sales tanked. Xi responded to the currency crisis by capping offshore transfers to $50K. The COVID crisis hit. The place was labeled a "ghost town". Jump ahead to August 2023. The primary Chinese developer, Country Garden begins defaulting on its debt payments. Forest City is now under threat of seizure by creditors. ENTER THE NEW MM2H program. Am I the only person who sees the Silver, Gold, and Platinum programs as being designed to turn people off? (Even those with lots of money?) I also doubt that anyone who had set their hearts on retiring in KL is going to be happy with the Borneo/Sarawak option. Leaving only...ah...the Special Economic Zone option in Johor. The only one of the five options that can be sold to retirees as a retirement destination in a tropical beach front development. Now that the fig leaf has been removed, its going to be interesting to see how many people will fall for this shell game.

Hi Taylor. I've been looking into relocating from the U.S. to SE Asia, and watching your videos has got me thinking seriously about making Malaysia my new home base (prevously I was focused on just Thailand and the Philippines). I have a rather oddball question: when I watch videos of people eating at food stalls and in food courts in Malaysia, they seem to be eating exclusively with their right hand, with no utensils. I'm sure this isn't the case in western-style restaurants, but I enjoy eating the local "street" cuisine whenever I travel, and I don't think I'd ever be comfortable eating with my hands. Do these places make utensils available? How do you deal with this, or do you just avoid street food altogether?

Great preview. For cooking you can easily buy another portable electric induction stove & put it anywhere on the counter or store it until you need it. You could also use it as a tabletop stove for steamboat/hotpot/fondue or whatever takes your fancy, wherever you want - including at the poolside BBQ or wherever there are power outlets. Look forward to your move & after video. Some tall plants at the corner can also help to block the afternoon glare. Plastic lining for the curtains can help to cut heat ingress, if it is a problem later.
